Projects

Collie, 2018

Collie is a project my wife and I worked on to use technology to improve the lives of small business owners (SBOs) who, despite being the backbone of our economy are often underserved when it comes to access to technology and strong expertise. These SBOs often rely on inefficient business operations practices or the business advice of friends and family who lack true business expertise. We see an opportunity to support SBOs and improve their chances of survival.

Collie is NSF-funded.

Our 1st round submission for the Carnegie Mellon McGinnis Venture Competition.

Smartbell, 2017-18

When I started my MBA at Tepper, the creative juices started flowing. It’s hard not to let your mind wander about new business ideas and products when you’re so immersed in emerging tech at Carnegie Mellon. I began thinking of the fitness industry and how AI and computer vision would inevitably play a huge role in its growth. Smartbell is a startup concept that automates the workout tracking experience for gym goers and provides valuable usage and traffic data to gym management. We’d apply the latest computer vision techniques by leveraging existing surveillance systems in gyms to analyze workout activity. We’d then combine our analysis with sensor data throughout the gym to deliver insights about people’s workouts as well as important equipment usage data to inform preventative maintenance and gym layout decisions.

The Boring podcast: Elon Musk News on an Irregular Basis, 2017

The Boring Podcast, a comedy podcast that focuses exclusively on Elon Musk news, is admittedly pretty niche. A play on the name of Elon Musk’s tunnel construction company, The Boring Podcast was really just a fun 30-minute riffing session about Elon Musk’s personal life with a dash of serious stuff mixed in.

It gave me and my cohost a fun crash course in podcasting. Though we didn’t have a long run due to the whole MBA-taking-over-my-life thing, I loved doing it.
